The purpose of this modification 8 is to post questions and answers. The deadline for responding to this Solicitation and for submitting sample rifles remains as February 29, 2008. Question: How long does USSS plan on keeping the weapons during first part of the evaluation? Answer: USSS anticipates six weeks to be adequate for PHASE I test verification. Question: Re the clarification: On or before 5 PM EST Monday, February 25, each vendor submitting sample rifles shall send an email message containing the tracking number of that shipment and vendor name for a point of contact. So we generate a tracking number on Monday the 25th and ship the rifles on the 29th? Answer: USSS requires the tracking number on Monday, February 25 but the rifles need not be shipped until Friday, February 29. Question: Can we hand deliver the weapons instead of shipping them (with coordination)? Answer: No, per USSS security policy, packages may not be hand delivered. Question: A tracking number is needed on Monday for your office, however, we will not have a tracking number if the rifles are to be shipped on Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.... Can we send an email on Monday stating we are sending (or delivering) rifles on a given date within the due dates then follow up with a tracking number once shipped? Answer: USSS' understanding is that a tracking number may be generated before a shipment is picked up from a vendor location. If it is not possible to generate a tracking number, then a vendor submitting sample rifles shall send an email message containing the ship date of that shipment, shipping method and vendor name for a point of contact Question: Are the rifles due at your location (USSS) on Feb 29 or must they be shipped from our location with the last day being Feb 29 for shipping? Answer: Ship rifles on or before 5 PM Friday, February 29. A late shipment of the rifles would be after Friday.
