The US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command-Picatinny has a requirement for the manufacture and delivery of 120 each Spade Dampers, beginning in the March 2005 time frame. The spade dampers are for use in the Lightweight 155mm LW155) Howitzer. The function of the spade dampers on the LW155 Howitzer is to absorb and dissipate recoil energy when the Howitzer is fired. There are two spade dampers on the Howitzer, one for each spade. The spade damper is designed to absorb approximately 60,000 lbs of force. This significantly reduces the loads on the Howitzer structure, thereby increasing reliability and durability of the system. The Government intends to solicit and negotiate a firm fixed price contract on a sole source basis to Taylor Devices, Inc., Tonawanda, NY. The point of contact for this procurement is John Eilenberger, Contracting Officer, AMSTA-AQ-APG, BLDG. 9, Picatinny, NJ 07806-5000; e-mail:
