The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is planning to upgrade equipment in the Train Control Rooms (TCRs) within its system. WMATA is seeking a contractor to provide a turn-key proposal for design, construction, Verification and Validation, and Testing and Commissioning of upgraded equipment for a minimum of eight (8) Train Control Rooms. It is the intent that this project will serve as the basis upon which WMATA may acquire and apply lessons learned from the project for the completion of a total of twenty-five of its Train Control Rooms throughout the system in need of similar improvements. This upgrade project consists of various Train Control Rooms across WMATA¿s system and will not necessarily be limited to one specific line. The complexity of this project design, implementation and testing to provide system modernization solutions will require a strategic and thoughtful approach that factor equipment age, footprint limitations, integration design and interoperability. The existing locations within WMATA¿s system include older technology with deployed equipment from Ansaldo and Alstom for train detection and cab signaling. This equipment has been in service between 21 and 44 years.
