The Office of the Product Manager Crew Served Weapons at the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, Armament Engineering and Technology Center has a requirement for a non-developmental 40mm dud-reducing cartridge. Candidate cartridges must meet the performance requirements of “Purchase Description for Cartridge, 40mm, HEDP, M430A1E1” dated 21 May 2002 and must contain an improved fuze design that is compatible with existing U.S. M430A1 cartridge components. The cartridge must be capable of demonstrating better functional reliability than the current M430A1 cartridge when fired at graze angles on soft terrain i.e. snow, mud etc. and better functional reliability at full range. The proposals received from the interested candidates shall be evaluated by the government using a prescribed set of evaluation criteria. The government will select the most promising candidate(s) based on best value. The basic contract SOW will be of 7-month duration that will require demonstration of the success of the final design in the M430A1E1 cartridge in a validation test of 421 rounds IAW the cited Purchase Description. Upon evaluation of the results of the validation testing, the government may exercise its contractual option to undertake a qualification test phase of 5-month duration in which the selected candidate shall fabricate a quantity of 5120 each, dud reducing M430A1E1 cartridges that will be delivered to the Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) for pre- production qualification testing.
