The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Aircraft Operations Center (AOC), MacDill AFB, FL, intends to procure a dropwindsonde launcher assembly for the Gulfstream GIV aircraft from Aeromet, Tulsa, OK. The NOAA Aircraft Operations Center maintains and operates a Gulfstream GIV aircraft for weather research and reconnaissance. The primary function of this aircraft is to launch dropwindsonde (henceforth referred to as sondes) into th atmosphere at high altitudes. After being launched from the aircraft, a parachute pops out of the sonde. The sonde collects atmospheric data as it descends to the ocean. This data is transmitted back to the aircraft and eventually transmitted to scientists on land. The scientists use this data to help understand the windflow around the weather systems. This information is used to better predict where storms such as hurricanes will make landfall. These predictions are used by emergency managers to determine which areas of coastline should be evacuated. The intended procurement is for a sondes launcher assembly for a Gulfstream GIV aircraft which the Government intends to acquire from one source, Aeromet, under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. This is not a request for proposals and there is no solicitation available at this time. The Government reserves the right to solicit proposals based on receipt of affirmative responses to this notice or issue a purchase order to Aeromet, whichever is determined to be most advantageous to the Government, without further notice.
