As a Division in the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Vermont Geological Survey (VGS) is guided by the mission to protect the environment and human health and safety. The VGS has been involved in mapping projects funded through STATEMAP for over 25 years. The VGS products are surficial and bedrock geologic maps, plus applied maps used by towns, government agencies and consultants to address such issues as radioactivity in groundwater, groundwater recharge potential and to mitigate landslide and rock fall hazards. DEC is seeking proposals for a grant to 1) conduct surficial geologic mapping in the Barnet and Woodsville quadrangles, and 2) compile data for 5 surficial maps on the Montpelier one-degree sheet. Up to $56,738.00 is available for one year, from July 23, 2021 – May 30, 2022, and the grantee must provide a minimum of $56,738.00 cash or in-kind match. Work involves considerable collaboration and coordination with the Vermont Geological Survey.
