The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Coherent Laser Group of Santa Clara, CA, for (1) one MIRA OPO-SHG-Ring Basic Dual for NIST's existing Coherent Laser Group System to form a tuned, integrated laser light source.***Sole source determination is based on the need for this MIRA OPO-SHG-Ring Basic Dual to be completely compatible and interchangeable with NIST's existing system. The MIRO OPO SHG-Ring Basic Dual laser is used in a computer-controlled application where the software and hardware have already been developed. Deviation from Coherent Laser Group products would result in unnecessary and costly redesign of the existing hardware and software. Additionally the MIRA OPO SHG-Ring Basic Dual along with NIST's existing system will form a tuned, integrated laser light source. Keeping the elements of this system matched or tuned to each other is critical to maintaining a high level of frequency agility. Deviation away from these components would result in a reduced level of performance or in a total failure of the laser platform. Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required within 180 days after receipt of order.***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334515, and the size standard is 500 employees.***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however, responses received by April 05,2002 will be considered by the Government. ***A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
