The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS), 7400 Merton Minter Blvd, San Antonio, Texas intends to negotiate a sole source award for a Fresenius 2008K System and accessories by Fresenius USA, Inc., 95 Hayden Avenue, Lexington, MA. The Government believes that Fresenius, USA, Inc. is the only manufacturer that will satisfy the agency requirement. This is sole source procurement under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures and Other Than Full and Open Competition (FAR 6.302-1). The Fresenius 2008K System and accessories are preferred by our renal physicians and the only dialysis machines that can meet our requirement. We already have 14 Fresenius 2008K machines in use in our Dialysis Center, so we will be standardizing on equipment, maintenance, and operating supplies; The Government believes Fresenius, USA, Inc. propriety development dialysis machines is the only source for performing continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Fresenius machines with CRRT capability use our standard acid and bicarbonate supplies, where the other manufacturers would require purchase of specialized supplies. Fresenius machines are volumetric, providing precise measurement of the fluid withdrawn from the patient per the physician’s orders.
