Department of Veterans Affairs Date: July 8, 2014 From: Office Acquisition and Logistics, National Acquisition Center, Business Resource Services Solicitation Number: VA797T-14-P-0087 Notice Type: Notice of Intent to Sole Source The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Hines Service Distribution Center (SDC), Service and Repair (S&R) Department in conjunction with the VA National Acquisition Center (NAC), Business Resource Services (BRS) has a requirement for maintenance and repair of Karl Storz Flexible Endoscopes models, Cystoscopes - 11272CU1, Ureteroscope - 11278AU1 and Rhino-Laryngoscope - 11101RP2. The Government intends to issue a firm-fixed-price contract, on a sole source basis to Karl Storz Endoscopy America, Inc. After conducting a thorough review of this requirement, a determination has been made that it is in the best interest of the customer/ end user ; more importantly, its patients - that maintenance and repair service for the aforementioned Karl Storz Flexible Endoscopes models only be provided by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Karl Storz Endoscopy America, Inc. This decision was based on strict specifications outlined by the manufacturer of the sterilization systems utilized at the customer's facility and the OEM. The use of OEM components and adherence to the OEM's repair specifications are essential to the sterilization validation of medical devices to ensure patient's safety. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes; however, interested parties may submit a capability statement that includes technical specifications of services, demonstrating ability to provide service and repair of described equipment herein. Responses under this Notice of Intent must be emailed by Friday , July 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM CT. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement for future requirements. A determination not to compete this and future requirements, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government. The Government will not be responsible for any cost incurred by interesting parties in responding to this notice.
