These stents are used for specific uses in the peripheral arteries. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used: The uniqueness of the Cook Medical Inc. Zilver Stents is that they are the only stents capable of augmenting existing inventory. The use of any other manufacturers stent in conjunction with the Zilver Stents pose a patient risk due to stent failure because of stent overlap areas being made of different materials making a non-conducive environment at the joint/bridgesCook medical Inc. is the only manufacturer capable of providing the supplies requested without the Satt Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center experiencing substantial duplication and possibly incurring additional costs. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted: The SLCVAMC utilizes multiple brands of stents, each has their own benefits and are case specific. For this requirement, no further Market research was conducted beyond contacting the manufacturer.
