The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Cytyc LP, 250 Campus Drive, Marlborough, MA 01752 for purchase of the ThinPrep 2000 Processor which is an automated slide preparation unit used with the ThinPrep Pap Test for cervical cancer screening. The ThinPrep 2000 can also be used for non-gynecological specimens. A unique feature of the ThinPrep 2000 is the use of proprietary Controlled Membrane TransferTM technology (CMT). This procurement will be a commercial item request for quotation under FAR part 12 and 6.302-1. The authority cited and justifications are based on the determination that the Government's requirements can best satisfied by services available from one source. This Notice of Intent is NOT a request for competitive proposals. Parties may identify their interest, accompanied by supporting information, to the Contracting Officer no later than September 23, 2005 C.O.B. Information received will be for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct a competitive procurement.
