The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to issue a sole source firm fixed priced purchase order under a Simplified Acquisition Procedures to Affymetrix, Inc., Santa Clara, CA for the acquisition of GeneChip Instrument System. The reseach application of Affymetrix GeneChips requires that the chip be scanned on the Affymetrix Scanner 3000. The image is displayed on a screen connected to the scanner and analog software generates a density number for each gene, to be used in the analysis. The resource of detailed analysis is deemed critical to establishing the use of technology in our laboratories and adapting the analysis protocols to specific reseach applications. CDC believes that this requirement is met by only one provider. This procurement will be processed under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 and 6.302-2. Only one responsible source and no other sources will satisfy agency requirements. No solicitation is being issued.
