DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Toptica Photonics, Inc –of Westfield, MA for (1) one Cavity Diode Laser. ***Sole source determination *** Factors used in justifying a sole source procurement are the need for the Laser to have an output power of 90mW or greater at 780nm, a linewidth <1MHz (measured over 50 ms) and must be compatible and interchangeable to existing NIST Tunable Diode Lasers. Toptica Photonics, Inc has been determined to be the only company capable of delivering a laser system that can simultaneously meet both the power and linewidth requirement. ***Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required within 90 days after receipt of order. ***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees ***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by July 25, 2003. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
