The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has a requirement to purchase a Cedex Hi Res. This instrument is capable of measuring cell density and viability in samples from suspension cultures using 300µl sample volume. The technology is based on the following: In a first processing stage, the taken images are analyzed by different local and overall image processing operators, and then the results are checked against plausibility and consistency. In case the evaluation of the quality of the images is not yet satisfying, the system automatically activates numerous mechanisms, for example: various algorithmic pre-processing stages. Subsequently the special analysis software comes into action, taking over the optical analysis of the cells. In almost all processing stages, several equal strategies are used to secure the certainty of the results. Windows XP (or W2K) and integrated multisampler shall be included.
