This notice of intent is from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to contract with Gatan Inc. at 780 Commonwealth Drive, Warrendale, PA 15086-7521 on an other than full and open competitive basis. The contractor shall provide a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) camera system, which will include the Ultrascan for HRTEM operation, installation and basic operator training, upgrade detector and one software copy of Digital Micrograph Windows 2000. Gatan Inc. is the only provider for the CCD camera and ancillary hardware with capabilities required such as the ability to record quantitative and accurately interpret atomic-scale high-resolution transmission electron microscope images. Gatan is also the only manufacturer to provide the modifications necessary to allow the CCD to replace the existing TV camera making this company the only source compatible.
