The USDA, Agriculture Research Service in Albany, CA has a requirement for: A compound microscope with epifluorescence, phase contrast and differential interference contrast (DIC) optics. Must be equipped for DIC, phase contrast, and fluorescence microscopy. Objective lenses must have plan fluor 4x, 10x DLL plan, plan fluor 20x, plan fluor 40x, and plan fluor 100x oil; fluorescence components and filter sets must have G-2E/C tritc, BV-2B, UV-2A, and endow GFP HYQ filter sets equivalent to Nikon or technical Instruments part number DM495/EX425-475/BA500LP; digital camera must be 4MEGAPIXEL. The most important feature of this microscope is the fluorescence capability, which will enable many techniques used frequently in cell biology. Fluorescence capability will also be used for immunolocalization studies on either epitope tagged proteins or using antibodies specific for a protein that can then be reacted with labeled secondary antibodies prior to visualization.
