In the course of building a triple-view light-sheet microscope, it was discovered that the 3 first generation pco. 5.5 sCMOS cameras currently in use are limiting the speed at which data can be acquired. The cameras are limited to a ~95 MHz pixel readout rate, which means it can acquire data in the light-sheet system at a few tens of ms. In principle, faster imaging rates are possible with a second generation pco 5.5 sCMOS camera (up to 286 MHz), which would practically mean that the imaging speed will be improved at least 3-fold.
