NASA/GRC has a requirement to purchase a variety of 4H-SiC wafers in various quantities. NASA/GRC intends to purchase these wafers from Cree, Inc., 4600 Silicon Dr., Durham, NC 27703. NASA/GRC have previously purchased wafers from this vendor on a competitive procurement and have conducted a comprehensive characterization of them. This required many hours of work. Therefore, we must make sure each additional purchase of the wafers is consistent with previous ones on hand. Obtaining these wafers from any other vendor would require several months or years of material characterization before they can be accepted for research use. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE, THIS IS A SOLE SOURCE. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12 and 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The Sole Source is under the authority of FAR Reference 13.106-1(b)1(i). Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. EST on 6/25/2014. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
