MARY BRINKLEY'S CONTACT INFORMATIN IS IN THE BODY OF THIS SOLICITATION********** NASA/MSFC has a requirement for IM7-G/8552 graphite/epoxy unidirectional prepreg material for the fabrication of test coupons and panels. NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items from Hexcel Corporation on a sole source basis. Competition is impractical fotr the following reasons: 1. Hexcel Corporation is the manufacturer and only supplier of IM7/8552 unidirectional composite prepreg. This is an exclusive Hexcel product. 2. IM7/8552 prepreg has been chosen as the composite prepreg material of choice for the current effort through a down selection process initiated by the Upper Stage Interstage Integrated Product Team. 3. This material has been used in previous and current large launch vehicles and has properties which make it attractive for use in the Ares I vehicle. No other vendor satisfies this requirement. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to [email protected], or fax to 256 544-4988 no later than 4:30 p.m. local time on June 27, 2007. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
