The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service, Milford, Connecticut, has a requirement a for an elemental analyzer model4010-500A or equivalent. This equipment will be used for the determination of total carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen (C,N,H,S, and O) in solids and liquids of various sample sizes and types. The specification for the elemental analyzer system must include: (1) an option to have a sealed carousel, which adds no atmospheric nitrogen during sample introduction; (2) proven success to be coupled to a mass spectrometer for continuous flow measurement of stable isotopes; (3) on board controller of all instrument functions with no separate computer control required; (3) the ability to be configured for the simultaneous determination of NC, NCS, CHNS, or O; (4) make a complete, gas chromatographic separation of all elements; (5) the entire gas sample must be analyzed from combustion with no splitting of dilution of the combustion gases; (6) regulators must be used to control the gases, not mass-flow controllers, to ensure stable gas control; (7) a microbalance with 1 ug readability; (8) the ability to account for different sample sizes and the analyzer must be able to easily switch combustion/reduction reactors of different diameters; (9) data acquisition software; (10) a start up kit; (11) use a single dual filament, high sensitivity thermal conductive detector for the measurement of N,C,H,S and O so that no reference gas flow is required; (12) installation and training; and (13) one-year one site warranty.
