The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) intends to negotiate with the University of Washington located in Seattle, Washington on a sole source basis to acquire the balance of genes potentially anticipated to be re-sequenced under current contract, N01-ES-15478. The contract delineates âgene equivalentsâ which were intended to correlate approximately to the actual number of actual genes which would be re-sequenced. Variance in the complexity of genes has resulted in the variance between the number of gene equivalents and number of genes themselves. In addition, NIEHS will acquire web-based tutorials and training in support of the developed materials. Depending upon the success of this undertaking, NIEHS may extend the training effort for an additional year. Authority: 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) as set forth in FAR 6.302-1 and HHSAR 306.302-1. Inherent duplication of costs to the Government and unnecessary delays in completing the remaining genes render competition unfeasible. See notes No. 22 and 26.
