The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) intends to solicit proposals using full and open competition on an unrestricted basis as a follow-on to contract N01-ES-15478 awarded to the University of Washington. This notice is a re-announcement of the requirement previously described under solicitation number NIH-ES-07-05 which did not result in award of a contract. Contract objectives include 1) establish a catalog of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in prioritized environmental response genes (ERGs) based on direct re-sequencing of selected genes; 2) use high-throughput sequencing technologies for rapid sequencing analysis utilizing a national sample repository for analysis of sequence variation in the U.S. population and make this data available to the scientific community via centralized public databases; 3) develop web-based tools to display estimated haplotypes and linkage disequilibrium patterns in human populations using the EGP data sets; 4) evaluate the population distributions of estimated haplotypes and identify evolutionary patterns among the human populations represented in the polymorphism discovery resource samples; and 5) mine the sequence variation in EGP genes to highlight potential functional coding or non-coding variants for further biological testing. Specific performance will involve re-sequencing up to a total of seventy-five (75) gene equivalents (GE) over a four (4) year period from genomic DNA obtained from a sample of ninety-five (95) ethnically defined individuals, data entry and validation. The estimated release date for the solicitation is mid to late January of 2008. The estimated receipt date for proposals is early to mid March of 2008. Electronic versions of the RFP will be available at http://www.niehs.nih.gov/omamb/rcb/rfp.htm. All eligible responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered. See numbered note 26.
