The Bureau of Land Management, ELFO has a requirement for services under Simplified Acquisition Procedures to: 1. Conduct ethnographic research on the Maidu, Pit River, Paiute and Washoe. 2. Provide clarity on which groups inhabited the ELFO area prehistorically and historically. 3. Provide place names and linguistic patterns. Report out in an ethnographic overview report. 4. Conduct interviews with selected tribal elders to identify Traditional Cultural Properties and sacred areas for planning purposes. BLM will require, as a component of this contract, a synthesis of the ethnographic data detailing Native American use of the entire field office area. The reporting of ethnographic data available, to date, should consider both temporal and geographic units, discussion of sensitive and traditional areas, and the relationship of properties to historic and modern themes. Themes to consider could include traditional stories, boundaries and place names; resource manipulation and technology; religion and medicine; significant people, beings, and places; historic response to contacts with other ethnic groups; adjustment and persistence.
