The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health, is soliciting proposals for research and development of neural prostheses for the auditory system. The objective of this research is to develop new methods of stimulating neurons in the auditory system which provide improvements in the transfer of information into the surviving neural pathways. Although this research will support primarily animal studies, the workscope requires the development of plans for translation of the results to clinical studies.
A five-year, cost-reimbursement type contract is anticipated, with award made on or about September 1, 2006. The solicitation will be issued on or about September 13, 2005, and will be posted on this Web site. Offerors are responsible for routinely checking this Web site for any amendments to the solicitation. Proposals will be due sixty days after the date of issuance of the solicitation. All responsible sources may submit a proposal, which will be considered by the Government. See Numbered Note 26.
