An adaptive optics system which shall include: (1) a wavefront sensor, (2) a deformable mirror, and (3) command software. The wavefront sensor measures the distortions in the optical beam, and the command software instructs the deformable mirror how to correct for those errors.
Wavefront Sensor Specification
The wavefront sensor measures the aberrations in the laser beam. It shall have 32 x 40 sub-pupils. The wavefront sensor shall offer measurement error < /85 rms on large phase modulations (including focus and tilt).
Deformable Mirror Specification
The deformable mirror corrects the distortions in the laser beam. The deformable mirror shall have an aperture of at least 95 mm diameter. It shall have 52 actuators. The deformable mirror shall achieve <20 nm rms optical quality for active flat and aberrations up to 5th order, for example spherical aberration. In case of a power failure, the deformable mirror shall keep its shape. In case of laser-induced damage, the deformable mirror shall be repairable on site with a down time of no more than 72 hours.
Command Software Specification
The command software uses the measurement of the wavefront sensor to set the surface of the deformable mirror. In combination with the wavefront sensor and deformable mirror, the software shall be able to make corrections to 49 and 75 mm diameter optical beams.
SALIENT QUALIFICATIONS WHICH MUST BE MET:
1) The Defomrable Mirror must maintain its shape if a power loss occurs.
2) A qualified on-site repair technician must be available to meet a maximum downtime requirement of 72 hours.
