Addendum #1 See the attached amended scope of work. Opportunity Summary The objective of this project is to enhance habitat associated with oak woodlands and open pine forests at Oregon State University's Collins Demonstration Forest, near Gold Hill, Oregon. Oak woodlands are an Oregon Conservation Strategy Habitat (ODFW 2006). Oak habitats are among the most biodiverse habitats in the region, hosting many endemic plants and more than 300 vertebrate species (KSON 2019). Compared to historic conditions, there is a substantial deficit in the Rogue Basin of open pine habitats (Metlen et al 2017), which support numerous wildlife species, from cavity nesting birds to small mammals. In the absence of fire and other disturbances, many low elevation forests in the region have become overgrown with small diameter trees and brush, diminishing habitat values. This project will improve oak and open pine habitats on a total of 30 acres by chainsaw thinning and piling encroaching small diameter (<8" DBH) trees and shrubs. Ancillary benefits include increased pollinator habitat, improved forest health, and reduced potential for uncharacteristic, high severity wildfire. OSU Extension uses the Collins Forest for outreach and education to small forest landowners and forest managers. This project has the potential to serve as an excellent demonstration of non-commercial thinning techniques to achieve multiple objectives. Specific objectives Restore open oak and pine habitat, including large canopied oaks and large diameter ponderosa and sugar pine Retain and promote large overstory hardwoods (both oaks and madrone) Increase cover of native grasses and forbs Maintain a mosaic of open and more dense cover across the unit, with some skips and gaps Improve the vigor of overstory pines Recruit a small number of vigorous midstory and seedling/sapling pines and oaks as replacement over time. Reduce fuel loading and crown fire potential A MANDATORY Bid Form is attached. You must download the attachment and use the attached Bid Form to bid on the solicitation.
