The Secretary of Defense directed vehicles for our Dignified Transfers.
These provide a professional image for our high profile mission. They must be outfitted with a
functional roller systems to satisfactorily complete the DT in the best use and in the quietest way.
Vehicles must be specifically modified for the unique mission of transporting transfer cases
containing the remains of fallen.
1.1 Measurements are of the current vehicles (red on attachment) with current racking system
(gold on attachment) the inside measurements of both vans (FORD transit van 350 HR):
- Behind front seats to rear double doors – 159”
- Floor to roof – 78”
- Left side wall to Right side wall – 68”
The measurements of the current racking system within both vans:
- Rear doors to front of van – 96”
- Roller rows at 30” each – 3
- One set of rollers mounted to the floor center of van
- Two sets of rollers mounted 33” off the floor left and right of center row leaving a 3” of
Spacing between them
- These two sets of rollers would set 53” from top of roller to top of roof
1.2. G43-0172R - Install Custom 3 - Part Roller System. Fabricate 3-Tier Fabricated Base,
Brackets and Roller System according to user specifications and pictures of other vehicles with
similar systems. Plus, install low voltage LED lights with two switches. In addition, remove
current roller system that is inadequate for mission. (See Photo’s provided)
1.3. G43-0178R - Install Custom 2 - Part Roller System. Provide labor and materials, fabricate 2-
Tier Fabricated Base, Brackets and Roller System according to user specifications and pictures
of other vehicles with similar systems. Plus, install low voltage LED lights with two switches.
Must meet all safety egress requirements in relation to the double doors. (See Photo’s provided)
1.4. New racking system must be built with either heavy duty steel or iron materials
1.5. Each row must be able to accommodate 600 pounds or more
1.6. Current racks will need to be removed and not be re-use any of the parts or material
1.7. Both vehicles cannot be out of service at the same time or for an extended period of time
