The Office of General Counsel (GC) supports the mission of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) by providing timely legal advice to program offices and representing the Agency in all legal matters. The Office of Food for Peace (DCHA/FFP) within USAID's Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) provides grants for food assistance to private voluntary organizations (PVOs) and the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP). DCHA/FFP provides both emergency food aid (which aims to address food aid needs arising from natural disasters, such as floods or droughts, and complex emergencies often characterized by insecurity and population displacement) and nonemergency food aid (which aims to address the underlying causes of chronic food insecurity). DCHA/FFP carries out its programmatic activities in close coordination and with the legal advice and counsel of attorneys in GC/DCHA.
