The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Water Resources Division (WRD), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, intends to award a sole source contract to Isotech Laboratories, Inc, 1308 Parkland Court, Champaign, IL 61821-1826 for the following services: The natural gas samples to be analyzed are critical to the USGS project objectives to (1) determine extent of natural gas migration into ground water aquifers in north-central Pennsylvania, (2) determine characteristics of natural gas, and (3) determine source of natural gas migration, Isotopic and chromatographic analysis characterizes the natural gases and provides evidence of their origin and migration. The service provided by the contractor is a specialized service, focusing on analysis for natural gas hydrocarbons, identification of thermogenic and biogenic sources, and on isotopic analysis of carbon-13 and deuterium isotopes of methane and ethane, carbon-13 isotope of dissolved inorganic and dissolved organic carbon, and carbon-14 analysis of methane. The contractor has provided analysis of samples in the same study area for the Cooperator of this USGS project. Use of the contractor for analysis of additional samples to be collected for this project will maintain data quality, data continuity, and data comparability. No RFQ will be issued.
