The Bureau of Land Management Ridgecrest Field Office is in the process of entering into a Contract with EREMICO Biological Services, the contract is a continuation of a previous contract consisting of identifying plant species within desert riparian and wash communities. The contractor must be experienced in using the belt/strip method as presented in Merikallio (1946) and reviewed by Franzreb (1977). The contractor must also be experienced at identifying (by sight and song) other birds within the breeding range of the Inyo California Towhee. The contractor must possess advanced levels of experience and skill with Inyo California Towhee identification, vocal recognition, breeding and foraging behaviors, and ecology. The contractor must use a GPS and download data into an already created GIS database and must also have been issued state and federal recovery permits for this species. This requirement fits into the overall mission of the Bureau of Land Management to manage the public lands in a manner that protects the quality of scientific, scenic, historical, ecological, environmental, air and atmospheric, water resource, and archaeological values; that, where appropriate, will preserve and protect certain public lands in their natural condition; that will provide food and habitat for fish and wildlife and domestic animals; and that will provide for outdoor recreation and human occupancy and use Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976.
