The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to purchase the following: The CDC intends to award a contract with a vendor that has gnotobiotic piglet facility and an excellent track record in the area of rotavirus vaccine research. The investigators should have sensitivity to the issues of rotavirus epidemiology, immunology, and a laboratory infrastructure that will enable them to collect these specimens on a timely basis and with complete follow up. The vendor shall have all reagents and assays in place to reliably complete all laboratory animal tests and provide guidance for future clinical trials in humans. It would be counterproductive for the CDC to have to set up a facility for a vendorwho does not have the prerequisite knowledge and experience with a study that involves complex operation procedures, collection of blood and fecal specimens, performance of various complex immunologic assays, and maintenance and monitoring of vaccinated/infected animals.
