The City of Albuquerque’s Fire-Rescue Department (AFR) provides pre-hospital emergency medical services to the citizens and visitors of Albuquerque. During the provision of medical care, AFR may create and/or collect biohazardous waste. Various City Departments also provide approved storage containers to house needles and syringes collectively “sharps” in the effort to help mitigate the spread of communicable diseases and infections that may be transmitted through needle-sharing and/or medical waste.
