This announcement is to solicit proposals to establish a BioIndustrial MII to serve as a public-private partnership between government, academia, non-profit organizations, and industry to address the spectrum of manufacturing challenges associated with biomanufacturing of non-medical products. The institute will address design-for manufacturing, scale-up production (SUP), downstream processing (DSP), and test and evaluation (T&E). It will also build a resilient ecosystem, focus on ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI), and advance education and workforce development (EWD). It is recognized that the technical thrust areas will require different considerations and proposers are encouraged to consider how they would prioritize and orient the MII in order to maximize impact to the field.
