To be comparable this current work in Georgia must be done in a manner consistent with the historic dolphin health assessment work including previous health assessments conducted as part of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) investigation in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory has analyzed the blood samples collected as part of the NRDA investigation in the summer 2011, 2013 and 2014 from the wild dolphins in Sarasota Bay, Florida, Barataria Bay, Louisiana, and Mississippi Sound, Mississippi which are being used as the official NRDA investigation sites. It is therefore critical and imperative from both a scientific and legal perspective that the same laboratory be used so the Mid-Atlantic UME samples can be comparable to that of the NRDA investigations.
