The City of San Diego (City) Public Utilities Department’s Environmental Monitoring and Technical Services Division (Division) conducts the Ocean Monitoring program mandated by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit for the purpose of studying the effect of the City’s regional treatment processes on the marine environment. The Division utilizes two monitoring vessels to conduct sampling in the ocean environment to determine its ecological health and to identify potential health concerns associated with the recreational use of San Diego’s coastline. The Division requires general yardwork and preventive maintenance for the vessels, including but not limited to electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, repair of engines and generators, and replacing main winch spools as needed.
