STATEMENT OF WORK
FOR ACQUISITION OF BRAIN VOYAGER QX SOFTWARE
1.0 BACKGROUND
The Warfighter Performance department at Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) has
multiple projects to investigate the neural factors underlying optimal performance in extreme
environments. Essential to clarifying these factors is the elucidation of certain brain-behavior
relationships in elite performers. This is accomplished by evaluating the relationship between
brain activity during various cognitively and emotionally challenging laboratory tasks in
Marines and Navy personnel. Brain activity is collected using Functional Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (fMRI) which requires advanced fMRI software for analysis and visualization of data.
NHRC wishes to acquire Brain Innovation's BrainVoyager QX software package and EEG addon
package. These two software packages will allow for specific region of interest analyses
and advanced surface-based analyses of fMRI data as well as analysis and detailed visualization
of EEG data.

The Warfighter Performance Department at NHRC has the need for Brain Innovation's
BrainVoyager QX fMRI analysis software with the following features:
1.) Program-free usability: We do not have the expertise to program the advanced fMRI
analysis algorithms into Matlab or other program. BrainVoyager software provides the
most advanced fMRI data analysis methods without requiring advanced programming skills.
2.) Pre-Processing of data: BrainVoyager QX allows for mean intensity adjustment, inter-slice
time correction, 2D and 3D motion correction, spatial and temporal bandpass filtering,
Gaussian smoothing, and removal of linear and higher order trends in time course data.
These can all be easily applied to the fMRI data using BrainVoyager without the need for
additional programs, time or expertise.
3.) Statistical data analysis and visualization: This software allows for parametric statistical
mapping such as linear correlation, cross-correlation, general linear model and
deconvolution analysis. Statistical analysis that is pre-programmed into the software
without the need for additional processing will increase the efficiency of data analysis.
4.) EEG/MEG Module: BrainVoyager allows the import, preprocessing and analysis of raw and
averaged EEG data. This is necessary for adequately visualizing the BEG data we collect
and comparing it with the fMRI data.
5.) In-House Analysis: NHRC needs the capability to analyze fMRT data on computers separate
from those at the UCSD Keck Center for fMRI. Currently fMRI data must be analyzed on
computers at the UCSD facility, but with the purchase of BrainVoyager, NHRC will have
the ability to analyze the data in-house.
