Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA, or Metro) seeks to implement open payment capability to its system including Rail and Bus. Currently, the SmarTrip, in its plastic or virtual form factor, is the only means of making payments to ride WMATA's rail system; on bus, cash and SmarTrip are accepted forms of payment. If implemented, open payments will be an additional payment method that WMATA customers can utilize when taking their trips. This will enable WMATA customers to utilize additional payment forms such as their credit cards (or any other open payment media) to pay at the gates and on the buses using existing Faregate and Farebox hardware. This statement of work specifies WMATA's requirements for the open payment implementation and integration into existing WMATA fare revenue systems with necessary testing to validate the process.
