June 10, 2024 The City of Belfast is soliciting written bids for supplying salt for winter road maintenance. Attached are instructions and/or specifications pertaining to bids. Bids are to be submitted in a sealed envelope marked “City of Belfast - Winter Road Salt”. Bidders are requested to submit their proposal to the City Clerk’s Office, 131 Church Street, Belfast, Maine 04915, on or before 10:30 a.m., June 26, 2024 at which time bids will be publicly opened. The City of Belfast is exempt from taxes; therefore bids should exclude such taxes. Federal excise certification shall be executed upon request of favorable bidder. The City of Belfast reserves the right to waive any formality or technicality. The award of the bid may be based on price, quality and / or service. Sincerely, Bob Richards Public Works Director Specifications for Salt The City of Belfast is requesting bids for supplying 1300 to 1700 ton of road salt to the Public Works Garage, 25 Barn Way off the Crocker Road in Belfast as needed. The storage building will hold about 300 ton, we usually try to order 3 or 4 loads at a time (100 -120 tons). Salt provided must be at least 95% pure; price should be reduced if salt is below the specification. 100 per cent (100%) of salt should pass ½” sieve and 0% to 15% passing the #30 sieve. Moisture content should be below.5%, if it is more than 2.5% then it will be rejected except in emergency situations.
