Requirement:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), is conducting a market survey to determine the availability and technical capability of qualified small business, veteran-owned small business, service-disabled veteran-owned small business or HUBZone small businesses capable of providing DEUTERIUM OXIDE (U-13C6, 99%).
Research in the Section of Protein NMR and the Protein Biophysical NMR Spectroscopy Section heavily relies on the use of isotopically enriched bacterially expressed proteins. To produce isotopically labelled protein, the e. coli cells need to be cultured in media containing isotopically enriched nutrients, i.e. 15N-labeled ammonium chloride, L-glucose of differently labeled, uniformly 13C-labeled, 13C labeled and deuterated, and deuterated). Because the large size of the proteins being studied in the lab, proteins need to be perdeuterated, and thus the e. coli needs to be cultured in the media of deuterium water.
