This project will continue fuels hazard reduction and forest pest suppression work started in the sping of 2005 and will be accomplished through the use of a stewardship contract, which authorizes BLM to enter into a service contract allowing for the value of vegetative material removed to be applied as an offset against the cost of services received (Public Law 108-7). The goal of this project is to reduce the wildfire risk to developments and resources in wildland urban interface (WUI) near Clancy, Montana, and to remove processed/chipped materials from the project area, disposing or utilizing the woody materials that were processed to eliminate insect threats to local ponderosa pine forests. This project would utilize non-burn mechanical removal methods to protect air quality in the Helena Valley and to protect local aesthitic and forest resource values in the Sheep Mountain Recreation Area. The project area is located in T.9N, R.3W., P.M.M., Sections 31, 32 and 33 - Jefferson County, Montana, near the town of Clancy, Montana. A Site Visit has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. Participants will meet at: Legal Tender Restaurant Parking Lot just off Interstate 15 west of the Clancy off ramp.
