This project will be accomplished through the use of a stewardship contract, which authorizes BLM to enter into a service contract allowing for the value of vegetative material removed to be applied as an offset against the cost of services received (Public Law 108-7). The goal of this project is to reduce the wildfire risk to developments and resources in wildland urban interface (WUI) near Clancy, Montana, and to remove bark beetle infested materials from the project area, disposing or utilizing the woody materials in such a way as to eliminate a substantial insect threat to live pine trees. This project would utilize non-burn mechanical removal methods to protect air quality in the Helena Valley and to protect local aesthitic and forest resource values in the Sheep Mountain Recreation Area. Location: Approximately 6? miles south of Helena, Montana.
