This is a Stewardship project. The Bureau of Land Management intends to enter into a contract for the Rich & Rocky Stewardship project with private persons or other public or private entities to perform services to achieve land management goals for public lands that meet local and rural community needs. The Rich & Rocky Stewardship Project is located 15 driving miles west of Merlin, Oregon in an area of offsite pine planted during the 1950's. The project will be a five year indefinite quantity, indefinite delivery contract, the purpose of which will be to perform a variety of services to remove offsite pine and thereby maintain or enhance the plant communities. Work includes pre-commercial thinning, commercial thinning, hand piling and covering piles, ripping roads, pruning roadside trees, and stream restoration work. Project goals include accelerating the development of late-successional characteristics in the residual stand while reducing stand densities, improving big game habitat, restoring streams, and reducing hazardous fuel levels, thereby reducing potential for wildfire.
