This announcement constitutes a Sources Sought Synopsis. This is NOT a Request for Proposal. No Solicitation exists. The following information is provided to assist the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAVAIR) in conducting a market research of industry to identify potential contractors capable of providing F414 Inlet Nozzle in support of the F-18 Super Hornet aircraft. The Inlet Nozzle is used to provide a smooth flow path for air entering the engine inlet during out of airframe full power engine test of the F414 Afterburner Turbofan Engine. The F414 engine is used in the F-18 Super Hornet aircraft. The unit shall meet the existing drawings. The Government will not be entertaining alternate Inlet Nozzles in order to satisfy this need.

Description:

The F414 Inlet Nozzle is fabricated using fiberglass (pre-preg e293/7781) over an aluminum flexcore. The inlet contour is a flared diameter sized to provide a specific flowpath and to facilitate storage and transport on a 48" rail system. Instrumentation pads, which are normally sealed with blank-off covers, are located in the throat section at a plane identical with factory instrumentation locations. The rear interface of the Inlet Nozzle is decoupled from, but sealed to the engine inlet using a rubber lip type seal. The forward end of the Inlet Nozzle interfaces with an InIet Screen, p/n 21C8502G01. A built-in lifting eye is provided for use in removing the Inlet Nozzle and Inlet Screen from the p/n 21C14513G03 Inlet Nozzle Support. A water wash manifold is built into the Inlet Nozzle. That manifold interfaces with the p/n 65A102J1 corrosion control cart.
The gross dimensions of the Inlet Nozzle are: height - 52.8 inches, width - 52.8 inches, length - 47.1 inches. The net weight of the Inlet Nozzle is approximately 175 pounds.

The Inlet Nozzle is maintained by the Navy at the Intermediate level of maintenance. Maintenance includes periodic inspections to include visual, liquid crystal and coin tap inspection of the inner Inlet Nozzle surface.
