First published Friday, July 7, 2017 The University awarded a contract for Feed Ingredients to ADM Animal Nutrition, Quincy, IL, for an estimated $1,125,000. U of I Animal Sciences Feed Mill provides custom and bulk rations for research and herds diets for 8 Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Edward Madigan Laboratory research and teaching units. Then, the unit, operating with 2 FTE staff, produces approximately 50 orders per week (60 tons per week). These ingredients are stored, formulated, and mixed at the Feed Mill and delivered to the units. The Feed Mill produces specific rations for several agricultural species that include: Beef and Dairy cattle, swine, poultry, horse, and sheep. The requested supplies are all routinely added ingredients to build these specific rations/diets. The volume estimates are based on previous use. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the items are required for research and no other source is able to meet the researcher's documented needs. We will also hold a hearing if any vendor submits a signed statement showing the capability to provide the stated supplies/services at or below the amount indicated. The public hearing allows any interested party the opportunity to testify for or against the sole source determination as described in this notice. The purpose of the hearing is to receive information from the public in a reasonable manner. Formal rules of evidence will not apply. The hearing officer will produce minutes of the hearing and may record it in order to aid in the production of the minutes.
