The FIU “Race, Risk, and Resilience: Building a Local-to-Global Commons for Justice” (FIU-CfJ) project was created to build a research-analysis-awareness-voice-solutions program to identify, illustrate, and address the deep racial and ethnic inequities in pre-event disaster exposures and vulnerabilities and in post-event resilience resources and capacities. The CfJ project has 11 major components (some with sub-components): 1. Six (6) Collaboratory Neighborhood Studies and Presentations 2A. Two (2) Documentary Productions 2B. Six (6) Art Exhibitions 3. Twelve (12) Neighborhood/Community “Solution Sessions” 4A. An Oral History Archive 4B. Twelve (12) Community Storytelling Events 5A. Six (6 total, two per year) Visiting Artists 5B. Three (3 total, one per year) Professional Journalists and/or Faculty Members 6A. Three (3) University-Level Course Modules in “Histories from Different Perspectives” 6B. Two (2) Major “History Exchange” Outreach Activities 7. Twenty-one (21 total, seven per year) Undergraduate Research Fellowships for Underrepresented Students 8. Four (4) Pre-Doctoral Fellowships (over the three years in the humanities and humanistic social sciences) for Underrepresented Students 9. Two (2) Postgraduate Research Fellowships (over the three years in the humanities or humanistic social sciences) for Underrepresented Students 10. Fifteen (15) podcasts over three years 11. Twelve (12 total, three the first year, six the second year, three the third year) Local, Regional, and/or National Experts/Activists The FIU-CfJ project seeks to hire a person, team, or firm to create a documentary with the working title options of “Shocks and Stresses in a Multi-Racial City: Miami Over Time” or “Risk and Resilience in a Multi-Racial City: Miami Over Time”. The vision for this project is to create a documentary style video, about 5 to 10 minutes long. The video will be designed to bring awareness of the disproportionate impact extreme events (weather and public health) have when viewed via the lens of race, risk, and resiliency. The documentary is meant to be shared with the global community at large but also serve as a jumping off point for these marginalized communities to share their stories. The finished video will feature new footage shot by the contractor, as well as existing footage and stills where available and useful. Contractor will collaborate with and arrange for reviews and approvals with stakeholders for the concept development, rough cut, and final cut of the video. Contractor will provide professional video and audio production and will use professional grade editing applications. Contractor must comply with FIU and Mellon branding standards/techniques. Qualifications The contractor shall have proven experience in the field of video production. The position requires a detail-oriented, organized, self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, who can work both independently and collaboratively. The contractor shall have knowledge of video and audio production techniques and knowledge of equipment used for production and editing.
