Quantity Item Description
1 S950-R-00 Flight Computer
This item is required for use by the Air Force Academy Department of Astronautics. The AiTECH processor was chosen for FalconSAT-5 based upon its performance and technical requirements. USAFA has written more than 325,000 lines of software code for the FalconSAT 5 mission. FalconSAT-6 will be very similar to FalconSAT-5, only a few payloads will change, we therefore plan on using the same software for this mission. Since the software was uniquely written for the AiTECH processor, if another processor was chosen, we would have to rewrite our entire software, which would cost us 3 years in time, and at least $350K. All of this software was written by the Academy with our research contractors.
This acquisition will be done in accordance with FAR 12 and 13 procedures. This reference document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular Fac 2005-52, effective 31 May 2011.
