Justification and Approval of Sole Source Award to Life Technologies Corporation. The Defense Forensic Science Center (DFSC) located at the Gillem Enclave in Georgia, provides forensic laboratory services to the Department of Defense investigative agencies and other Federal law enforcement agencies. The DFSC has a mission essential requirement for the purchase of Life Technologies 7500 RT-PCR replacement human identification (HID) client workstations and the Applied Biosystems QuantStudio real-time PRC system to support the Forensic Exploitation Directorate DNA Branch and the Office of the Chief Scientist. The instruments will be used to identify human DNA in support to contingency operations and ongoing research projects that are designed to support DFSC casework and FXD missions. In addition, this instrumentation will be required to support upcoming research projects that will evaluate emerging forensic products, including Next Generation Sequencing.
