Project Title: CDNST Construction – Bison Segment Description of Work: The Helena National Forest intends to issue a solicitation for the construction of Continental Divide Trail # 337 (approximately 6 miles of new trail construction). The trail will be constructed to hiker, pack and saddle standards. Tread width will be 30 inches. All aspects of new trail construction will be included in this project. Clearing and grubbing, excavation, turnpikes, switchbacks, climbing turns, grade reversals and ditching are all included in this project. Grade dips and grade reversals will be incidental to new tread excavation. Grade dips are a pay item for trail restoration. Due to the length of new construction and short working season, machine construction will be a requirement on this project. Terrain is not exceptionally rough but there will be a considerable amount of rock that will slow construction. Location: Start of project can be reached by traveling: West from Helena, MT on Highway 12 for approximately 18 miles; South on forest Rd #227 Little Blackfoot Creek; 2.9 miles, veer left at intersection with Little Blackfoot Rd #227 and rd #1857 Telegraph Creek; 4.4 miles, turn right on #1857 Telegraph Creek; 7.9 miles, turn right on Ontario mine Rd #495; 8.6 miles, left on #1857 Telegraph Creek; 11.2 miles, right on Ontario Creek Rd #495; 3.6 trailhead, start of project. 46º25.066, 112º19.742 Additional Information: There will not be a pre-bid tour but it is recommended that prospective bidders make a site visit to assess ground conditions.
