The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) requires data on health IT adoption among hospitals and physicians to help monitor the effectiveness of federal programs and grants related to health information technology. ONC's goal for data collection is to inform key policy decisions, examine the relationship between use of health IT and improvements in the quality of care.
ONC requires complete census data on all 50 states and the District of Columbia that reflects a census of health IT use in non-federal acute care hospitals and representative sample of health IT use in affiliated physician practices. The only company who can provide this type of data is HIMSS Foundation. HIMSS Foundation is the only known source that offers a census data set of this capacity using their pre-packaged product that is available to the general public.
