The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Eastern Regional Research Center, Dairy and Functional Foods (DFF) Research Unit in Wyndmoor, intends to negotiate solely with TA Instruments in New Castle, DE, to furnish, deliver (FOB) Destination a Humidity and Temperature control accessory for a Q800 Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer SN# 05000-0533 (DMA-RH). The features of the DMA-RH humidity-control accessory include:
- Controlled conditions of both relative humidity (5-95% RH) and temperature (5-120°C).
- Operation in isothermal or temperature ramping mode (<±1°C/min), and in isohume or humidity ramping mode (±2% RH/min).
- The DMA-RH Accessory is a standalone unit and includes a humidifier and associated electronics which precisely control temperature and humidity of the sample environment, a heated vapor transfer line and a sample chamber which mounts on the DMA in place of the standard furnace. Its temperature is controlled with Peltier elements, and it accommodates most standard DMA clamps.
- The DMA-RH Accessory receives commands from the Q800 DMA via an RS-232 cable and controls all sub-systems that are associated with generating and maintaining both temperature and humidity.
- Universal power supply which is compatible with electrical voltages in the range 90-265VAC.
The DMA-RH Accessory is designed for use with QNX-based Q800 Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer operating Thermal Advantage for Q-Series Software Version 5.1 or later. All items quoted shall include shipping costs FOB Destination to Wyndmoor, PA. All quotes shall include delivery dates expressed in days or weeks. The Humidity and Temperature-control accessory will be used to measure the mechanical properties, particularly tensile strength, of polymeric films made from dairy proteins under various conditions of temperature and humidity, to observe and quantify changes to the films' structure created by heat and humidity. This will be useful to both characterize the films and evaluate food packaging applications.
